Solid Surface Material
CORIAN
Corian was invented by DuPont in 1966 and was found to be a very hard, non-porous acrylic material. Corian is colorfast in even the harshest sunlight, it resists damage by sharp objects, and heat (up to a pot of boiling water), and can be inconspicuously seamed. As with all surfaces, we recommend using a cutting board so as not to damage your knives or the surface. We also recommend using a trivet for hot items off of the stove or out of the oven. Corian is available in over 100 colors of sheet stock. Sinks made of Corian are generally various shades of white and come in a variety of shapes and configurations.
DuPont is a company that is over 200 years old and stands behind all of their products. DuPont guarantees Corian, for 10 years. This guarantee is for fabrication, installation, and materials, as well as full repair of product and incidental costs. High heats such as heat generating appliances, (electric frying pans, waffle irons, coffee makers) and sharp objects can damage the surface of Corian. Most damage can be repaired by simply sanding it out with an orbital sander. At the completion of the kitchen installation, we give you instructions on how to maintain your Corian tops. We also give you a cutting board of Corian that is your dye lot for repairs, should anything go wrong.
We recommend a Corian as a vanity top and sink and as a shower surround for an easy to clean surface. We can fabricate Corian shower pans for those unusually sized shower floors when a factory made acrylic or fiberglass pan will not work. Please check with your building inspector to make sure that they are approved in your area. Typically, backsplashes in Corian are butted to the top and caulked. Only in a solid surface material like Corian can we cove the horizontal and vertical joints for an additional charge. With coving, there will always be dust.
